A pianist of “sublime inspiration” (Telegraph) for whom “Chopin’s spirit flows out of her in each melodic phrase” (Allgemeine Zeitung), Janina Fialkowska returns to Portland Piano International to perform four of the Polish composer’s most delicious dances for solo piano, each one a dramatic study in emotional contrasts.

And to open her recital, Fialkowska assembles a suite of Romantic works that portray vibrant tales of love and loss. Von Weber’s Invitation to the Dance evokes a grand ballroom filled with joyous revelers, while Grieg’s Lyric Pieces offer melancholy melodies of heartbreaking delicacy, and Schumann’s Fantasiestücke explores moments of fantasy, humor, and poetry with music of endless imagination.

Janina Fialkowska’s recital is a joint production of the Oregon Music Teachers Association, part of their annual conference, and Portland Piano International, whose recitals have been a vivid presence in Portland’s art scene for 46 years.

More information about the OMTA State Conference can be found here.

Single tickets to this recital are available at Portland Piano International’s website.
